Room 2 have begun the year by creating their own classroom treaty. We looked at the Treaty of Waitangi, how it came about and discussed why it would be important to have our own class treaty. Our class treaty contains the values and guidelines that the students feel are important to abide by each and everyday. Throughout the development process we did lots of brain storming and small group work to ensure we gathered as many ideas as possible. It also allowed the students time to get to know each other. Then to narrow down our choices we learnt about democracy and fair and anonymous voting. Over three different sessions we adjusted and narrowed down our main points to 10 key points. The result is an outstanding display created by the students including the values to follow, one large class photo, and the signatures of all the students, backed on gold paper. Feel free to come and visit Room 2 to check it out.
